The Refuge Golf Club Chooses Honours Golf
By Dave Daubert
Honours Golf, a division of Troon, the leader in club management, development, and marketing, is pleased to announce it has been selected to manage The Refuge Golf Course, a daily-fee/resort course located in Flowood, Miss. The Refuge is currently in the final phase of a three-year renovation and development project and is expected to reopen for play this fall.
The Refuge originally opened for play in 1998 and quickly gained acclaim as one of the top public golf courses in the state. The golf course was closed for a complete renovation in 2018 and has remained closed since that time. Work on the new Sheraton at The Refuge Resort and Conference Center and a new golf operations building is expected to be completed this fall.
Roy Case designed the original 7,000-yard layout, while golf course architect Nathan Crace oversaw the recent 18-hole course renovation, which included a new irrigation system, tree removal, new cart paths and re-grassing. The golf course is routed through stands of towering Mississippi pines and centuries-old oaks while preserving the natural habitat and wildlife found throughout the property.
"The Refuge is an exciting operation for our Honours Golf team," said Matt Hurley, President, Honours Golf. "Our agronomy experts are already in place prepping the golf course for its opening, while associates charged with golf operations, merchandising and marketing are all eager to get started."
Located adjacent to the golf course, the 10-story, 200-room Sheraton at The Refuge will feature multiple dining options, a medspa, cooking school, rooftop bar, resort pool, lazy river, and a 54,000 square-foot conference center. Golf operations, including a pro shop and 19th hole food and beverage venue, will be located in the resort's southwest corner.
"We're thrilled to partner with the number one golf course management company and utilize their expertise in agronomy, course management and marketing," said Flowood Mayor Gary Rhoads. "The newly renovated golf course and beautiful resort will be outstanding amenities for residents and visitors to our city."
